This work allowed me to study and explore the limits of this photo-collaging exercise. The process began by creating an installation. As a photographer, various perspectives were explored to present a sense of direction that would guide the viewer within the space.
During postproduction, much thought was given to seeing the images ability to accept layers. Using the devices to create depth of field, I began to layer various forms taken from smaller prints of the image. A repetitive, overlapping process is used to create spatial depth, and present a way to see the obvious, but to draw attention to the other spatial details of the image and the perspective, voyeuristic menu choices for the viewer.
I played with cutting and adding smaller versions taken from smaller printed images of the same, to create repeating patterns. This process helped to create depth and add a sense of implied space. I pride myself with being a great photographer, but this was a collaging process and just showing photographic images would not contend with the theme. So I also explored other artists and the process they were using to create drawings.
As for the mirror in the space, as I was setting up the installation to photograph, I kept being drawn to exploring the addition of an exterior space within the interior. This is where the mirror and the windows came into play. The mirror aids in creating a threshold to enter or exit, placing myself in this image projects the idea that I am in or perhaps out of the space.
I explore a life that has granted many stages, gratefully accepting liminal degrees. Some were thoughtfully sought and others granted gratuitously. Knowledge, profession, recreation, generosity and measure are devices that helped pave the way, but my heart and mind have been the navigating force to being.
